As a former tree worker and peer of yours here in Victoria BC, I share your experiences from the arborist perspective. In particular, the ergonomic challenges of property care: through hauling uncut brush; losing and acquiring many orphan brute cans from the roadside; missing Hartland's closing hours working late; winter time scarcity; traffic congestion; slung enough mulch and vegetative waste vertically to have summited Everest countless times...and countless more times starting the next working day - annoyingly - with a full load of tree waste in the truck bed.
Bodily wear and tear as a result of ergonomic consideration deserves special attention.
Ones body should be happy during work. Devising better ergonomics was an ongoing issue which, here, I have sought to resolve by thinking about the way we work. Starting this Spring 2024, I'll get to put my ideas to practice for you when rental of our narrow access wood chippers will begin. And it is my plan that this will be only the first instalment of a line of equipment and tools that will help you spend more billable time on the type of work that got many of us into the industry in the first place: being experts of the natural world, and less time on the less glorious work of moving stuff from point A to B.
My first instalment of this effort for 2024 will be to provide wood chippers and improve equipment mobility.
You are the urban stewards of our natural world. Your work is valuable. And if I have any say in it, it'd be to help you express that better for your clients.
Kindly yours,
Paul Heinrichs
